Eliminate urea fertilizer! GMO is no longer an issue!
Mohsen Mardi, head of the Iranian Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute, referred to the conclusion of 16 contracts in the field of technological agriculture at the NAT3 exhibition, and said: “One of the contracts signed is related to reducing nitrogen pollution.”
Unfortunately, urea fertilizer cannot be removed from the agricultural production chain because its removal drastically decreases agricultural yield.
He added: “Although we currently consume about 5 million tons of various fertilizers in agriculture annually, we not only have a shortage in amounts of consumption, but we also face problems in terms of the usage timing, so we must move towards alternative fertilizers in order to improve food safety and hygiene and increase production.”
He announced the production of two new types of fertilizers based on modern technologies and stated: “the first group are biofertilizers that originate from nature and contain living micro-organisms. These fertilizers can replace urea fertilizer, and have many positive effects on plants and human health besides.” The second group are chemical fertilizers produced based on Nano coatings which are more efficient and effective, and also reduce fertilizer consumption, resulting in improved environmental quality, greater production and increased exports.
Urea fertilizer is a silent killer!
Mustafa Ghanei, head of the Knowledge-Based Economy Development Headquarters for Biotechnology, Health, and Medical Technologies, while referring to the very high amount of nitrate in urea fertilizer, added: “Our problem today is no longer GMOs, but nitrates, because according to the latest research, digestive cancers- the most common type of cancer in the country- are closely related to nitrates in food.”
